There were 770,443 crimes (all notifiable offences) committed in London in 2012/13, down 5.5 per cent on the year before.

London has one of the highest numbers of CCTV cameras of any other city in the world. London’s 33 councils operate 7,431 public CCTV cameras. By comparison, Paris has 326 equivalent cameras.

There were a total of 92,225 crimes of burglary in London in 2012/13, a fall of 4% on the previous year. These figures include both theft and attempted theft from buildings, including damage that appears to have been caused by someone attempting to enter a building without permission.

Around two thirds of all recorded burglaries are against residential properties and one third against commercial.
